Panic and Depression of 1832
President Andrew Jackson refused to renew the charter of the Second Bank of the United States and transfer government funds to state banks. Andrew Jackson deemed the National Bank unconstitutional and the distribution of funds among the state banks caused 800 banks to close and the unemployment rate to rise to 10% nationwide.
